In life, it is often what we see or don’t see that determines how far and where we end up. Too many young people are not reaching their potential because they lack vision and good powers of observation and evaluation. People cannot succeed in life from blind faith.
Too many mistakes create disaster. From dropout to drug use, wrong thinking is leading to
wrong decisions . Sometimes we see what we want to see, not what we need to see. Rather than being led by impulses or deception, every person needs to develop the ability to see everything in our path and act wisely. We need to have the total picture… vision 360 !
•Life is built on making good observations. What we see, really see, often determines our destiny. Thinking something is real or correct, when it’s not, can lead us down the wrong road. The coolest people, places, or situations may be phony and or misleading. What is being advertised or sold to us may just be a pile of garbage. We must gain some powers of observation and some discernment to not get misled in life. We must see beyond today.
• Emotions can blind us, taking us into dangerous waters. We are literally driven from one moment to another by impulses. “If it feels good, do it” may be our life credo. These days, many young people are going for the biggest thrill or biggest memory. But looks can be deceiving and putting blind faith in a sudden impulse may lead to short-sighted decisions or disaster, leaving us feeling hurt or dissatisfied.
• Feeling invisible can lead to doing things just to get “noticed.” If people feel unloved, disrespected, or unnoticed, they may do outrageous or risky things to draw attention. That may lead to especially violent or indulgent choices that will prove to be destructive, turning into unhealthy life-time habits. Drug use, gang involvement, and unsafe driving are all examples of misguided choices or cries for attention. Good friends will keep us seeing the right way.
• Good leaders set good examples. Everybody influences someone. Our individual example and what we do in groups can raise up higher standards. We either lead people forward or undermine change. Social norms on drinking and other drugs, unsafe driving, and low participation in community charge can be raised when people see the benefits and good leaders. Nobody follows unhappy, uncommitted leaders.
We need to lift up the sight in people, to see a better way. Young people need to see what is true and real. They need to value life and make decisions to protect it. With rising levels of crashes and meth use, now is the time for increasing prevention campaigns. We need to be the eyes and ears that look out for others, giving them solid guidance and friendship. A good life is built on insight and action. Good choices lead to health and safety. If we make good observations and act on them, we will soar to great heights …because we have vision 360 !
